check all input fields – no silent restrictions!

Description
UI tip: don't restrict input fields so they don't respond to input (max length for example).
Much better that people get validation messages telling them what is wrong. Plus they might be pasting something they then edit down.
Silently refusing input is an anti pattern
- after checking / fixing for the current milestone, please refer ticket to next milestone
